my brother and I treated my family to dinner at Oliver & Bonacini's latest, Canteen in the new TIFF building. The menu was simple and tasty, the service team was noticebly novice but not terrible. It is definitely my kind of place, not too pretentious, but still a refined, comforting and soulful meal. I'm sharing my favourite dishes of the night.

love the little Le Cruset. this is french onion soup, that isn't overly salty as it always is when eating out. the cheese is Gruyère is sharp and aromatic.

the chicken liver is brilliant! the current compote is a perfect sweet compliment. at $8 this is the best deal in the house.

my dad ordered the meatball pasta and i want to find a way to make meatballs like this at home. reminds me of the meatballs i'd order at Fusaro's when i worked near there back in the day.

braised lamb and gnocci. well seasoned, the braising juice has deep flavours. The Gnocci isn't as fluffy bouncy as the gnocci at Quince, but I still enjoyed it. A larger portion would be better, or at least the addition of a squash or veggie.

sorry no dessert photos! we were too quick to finish them up before i even though of taking any photos. the Soma brownie is a no brainer and the Espresso Affagato is something i'd love to have everynight after dinner.

the only thing i'll add is that i've been there since again once more and noticed some dishes weren't as good as my first visit. the french onion soup was much saltier for example. I hope this quick convenient food joint serves consistently in the future.
