Popchips Popwhat?! - Product Review

The other week Azmina (@azminanutrition on twitter), a lovely dietitian, nominated me to receive a special sample box of a new product to hit the UK (from the good old US of A). I couldn't wait for it to arrive (as I love discovering new products to share with others) and wasn't disappointed. So, this is what arrived.. 4 lovely bags of POPCHIPS!

Left to Right: Barbeque, Sour Cream & Onion,
Original (My 2nd fave), Salt & Pepper (My fave)

SO, what are they?

If you remember 'disco' crisps (are they still around?!).. Popchips are a little like them, except they are a much healthy version. From a nutritional point of view they are less than half the fat of regular 'fried' crisps (3.4g fat; 0.4g sat fat) and contain less than 100 calories per bag.. so you could compare them to the 'baked' crisps or lighter crisps currently on the market. Popchips however like to advertise that they are neither fried nor baked.. just gently heated with a little pressure to make them 'pop' and 'taste delicious'.

And, what did I think?

Ok, so I was impressed.. and so were my friends. Yes my friends were hesitant at first; 'Oh what has Nic got us trying now.. oooh if it's healthy then it must taste grosse'... but then three bags later they were cracking open the hummus and salsa dips and couldn't get enough!

Popchips market themselves as being 'naturally delicious' with nothing added that is artificial or a preservative. You can read more about Popchips on their website [click here]. And can pick them up from Waitrose, WHSmiths, Harvey Nichols, Selfridges&Co. and a few more places [click here].

I hope you enjoyed this 'mini-review'.. I'm not being paid or anything like that by Popchips - I just wanted to spread the news that there's another 'healthy snack' on the market - however they still don't beat fruit and if you fancy making my delicious apple crisps then [click here].

Happy munching! Do let me know what you think if you try them.

Nic x
