dufferin groves

We finally had a chance to drop by the Dufferin Groves Farmer's Market after all this time. Its only about a 20 minute walk from our place downtown, right across dufferin mall, on well.. dufferin st.

dufferin groves
there isn't a lot of vendors yet this early in the season, but i get the impression theres a lot more community support at this farmers market. it seems like a lot of people just drop by to hang out, grab a bowl of soup and just lay on the grass and chat with their neighbours. And i think that's really great, it doesn't always have to be about grabbing the food specialty or checking off your grocery list, it can also be a destination to meet a new friend, relax and enjoy.

dufferin groves
we definately relaxed and laid on the grass, but we also definately at some food. we got these organic red pepper tortilla pizzas ($1) some quiche thing ($1) and the last bottle of hibiscus flower juice ($3)

dufferin groves
Dufferin Groves i believe is one of the oldest community parks in the city and they have all kinds of intergrated programs within the perimeter. They have community gardens, two open air ovens as well as a children's playground space with a outdoor kitchen.

I hear every friday they have a community dinner where you come with $7 in hand for a healthy dinner serving to enjoy with your fellow duffering grovers. I'm sure we'll drop by soon for that. please click on the photos to check out more photos we took that day at the park.

a walk in the beaches

a few weekends ago May and i took a whole afternoon out for a walk along the beaches neighbourhood in the east end of Toronto. may's never been there, and it was just a lazy saturday afternoon, between small oddball vintage shops, people walking their dogs and sand in our shoes. may will have some film shots on her other blog soon i'm sure, and we also recorded some random videos that may find a home at some point too.

lil baci front
we had hoped for some leslieville cheese market, grilled cheese sandwiches only to find out they had run out for the day. we arrived around 5pm so it was already kind of late. So i took may to one of my favourite Italian restaurants instead. Lil' Baci which translates to "little kiss". I like this place a lot because the environment and food is very down to earth, and it feels like a honest, and friendly neighbourhood restaurant.

best pizza in town
we weren't super hungry so we shared two pizzas. the bottom left is topped with crushed tomatoes, meatballs and basil. the top right is a white pizza with rabe, sausage, ricotta.

fence?
and yes, i guess this doesn't qualify as a foodie photo.. but its a photo of us. in a weird abstracted environment.. but this is very much real and unedited. =]

on pizza making

We were actually in the middle of making pizza when that photo shoot happened.

This pizza is simple, we used a pitta and put all kinds of this on there, mozzarella, artichokes, mushrooms, prosciutto, roasted red peppers and so much more! I definitely over loaded mine. After taking the pizza out of the oven, we put some arugula on top to balance the palate. It's so convenient to make any day.

The next day we made pizza again with fresh pizza dough we picked up from Fiesta Farms. Mmmm, it was even better!

today's

oyster mushroom pasta

Quick post!

Amy and I went shopping today and had Pizza for lunch. This pizza had many yummyness on it. Porcuito, mushroom, artichokes and shrimp!

Dinner..dinner i made a pasta with oyster mushroom and tomatoes. Andrea came over to have dinner with us and she brought pistachio icecream over, now that made it a complete satisfying meal!

I'm leaving tomorrow morning to northern Italy for 9 days. Gabe will fill in the gap!

At my desk

Okay so i want to make it little clear, this is not a competition. I would undoubtedly lose that battle. May is kicking my butt with lovely tasty italian meals, colourful markets and the opportunity to cook daily at home. I on the other hand have made a 180 by moving back home to my parents in markham.. and lets just say its completely different than living with your loved one right in the city.

at my desk - oreo sandwich

So since, May has all this amazing italian food that i can only dream of.. i'm gonna do my best to make her jealous.. even if i have to stoop as low as oreo ice cream sandwiches! muahah!

at my desk - wu gwok

We have this chinese resto walking distance by our house called "Lam Yuen" or Richmond Court.. and my mom occassionally brings home goodies from there. This is a "Wu Gwok".. which is a Taro Pastry of sort. or whatever you wanna call them. Deep fried taro with pork filling (usually served at dim sum). May's comfort meat is ground pork.. isn't that right?

at my desk - frozen pizza

So i actually ate this yesterday for lunch.. but i remember only telling May that i was currently eating something frozen and would not specify what. This is by far the best frozen pizza out there.. Its thin..tasty, perfect size and its cheap.. like $4.50 or something. can't go wrong.. although this one only has veggies.. and that's just wrong. I won't be doing that too often.. ;)
