Lobster Ravioli

Lobster Ravioli

This is our first time making fresh pasta I think. The recipe called for semolina flour, but we just winged it with all purpose flour, and surprisingly, it turned out really well!

For filling, we used lobster, bought from Foodie mart for $8 for two! Incredible deal. I don't actually know what else is in there, maybe Gabe can fill in for that. We also made yam filling, which turned out to be delicious too.

After having a difficult time rolling out pasta dough, Gabe bought a pasta maker, and we've been making a lot of fresh pasta ever since! Stay tuned for more pasta adventures.

all seafood everything

in case you were wondering, may hasn't posted in a while as she's currently in Beijing visiting her family. China's pretty tight with web access, so she hasn't been able to log in to hit up a post. i'm sure she'll post some goodies after she gets back this week!

so, we definitely love our seafood. and a few weeks before may left, we had lunch with my family. all lobster everything.

lobster salad for the lobster roll
we bought canning lobsters for cheap! $4.75 each? at foodie mart and my mom steamed a giant batch of them. we chopped up the lobster meat, added chopped apples, celery, mayo, sour cream, paprika, salt, pepper.

lobster salad for the lobster roll
mixed it all up together. this was a lunch collaboration, and lobster rolls was our duty.

mom made clam chowder
my mom fresh clams which she steamed and used the broth to start the chowder. she added a rue (cooked butter & flour) and then added other aromatics such as carrots, onions and celery. chopped potato added more thickness and completed it as chowder. of course she topped it off with crispy bacon that may brought back from the farmers market in cambridge

lobster roll
and here's the final lobster roll, with a small wedge of quiche (as if we didn't have enough to eat already).

eating like royalty

in terms of chinese food.. buying groceries, eating out. I am completely spoiled in Markham. First of which, my mom's cooking.. you cannot beat. I'll never be able to cook chinese food as good as my mom.. so i dont even bother trying.

baby blue crab

I know some might cringe looking at this photo, but seeing fresh crabs and their insides is not a big deal to me. All i see is yummyness. i do take the time to savour and appreciate what i'm eating. A new grocery store opened up (Foody Mart) and they had crazy opening sales so my mom went nuts and bought all kinds of yummy groceries. yes there's crab and lobster. yes we eat like emperors. Always have.. we're extremely lucky like that. also, there are veggies in this meal.. i just cut it out of the photo.. haha

6 person dinner for us 5

And now we've found a new restaurant to eat at... in PeachTree plaza. 6 dishes for $58 i think.. and wow.. what a deal! the food is top notch.. the portions are huge.. and the important thing for me.. is the "wok hey" which translates in chinese to the "wok's air" basically describing a flavour from the wok, the char, the aroma. Kind of like the element that char gives you on a bbq grill.

May's had many meals with my parents.. and i'm sure this post doesn't suprise her.. and only makes her jealous. but whatever! she's in Rome!

Jet plane to India

So the Li brothers both have girlfriends travelling away. Tiffany is going to India to get her Yoga certification and so we had a special dinner with some yummy food last night.
lobster bake potatoe

Mom bought lobster for $5.99 a pound which is pretty cheap. Was very fresh and very tasty, and of course we had clarified butter. You gotto love the chinese newspaper underneath.

oyster + guy lan

Oysters, chinese way. $1.59 each from Bur Oak grocery store by our house. My mom prepared them with black bean sauce and green onion.

mushroom caps

Darrick and Tiff made some mushroom caps.. which are basically button mushrooms turned over and filled with a mixture of breadcrumbs, bacon, onion, peppers. What an amazing meal! Have a great time in India!
