you may already know, i suprised may for her birthday and brought her to Langdon Hall, near our school in ye good ol' cambridge. for me, the setting, the food was something i knew she'd love.
here is may, checking out the selections.
our view of the country inn garden
and may started with the Charle's Farm Rabbit Pate en Croute. Pickled Grapes, Frisee & Herbs, Hazelnut Dressing
I started with the Colville Bay Oyster Risotto. Merguez Sausage, Creme Fraiche, Baby Arugula
Her main: Braised Lamb Neck. Parmesan Gnocchi, Valentine Radish, Endive, Navel Orange, Braising Juices
my main: Roasted Beef Tenderloin. Forfar Dairy Cheddar Agnolotti, Cookstown Baby Vegetables, Maple Broth
birthday girl's dessert: Bitter Chocolate Tart, Bourban Pecan Ice Cream, Bananna Swipe
i had the Frozen Lime Souffle, Blackberry & Pear Compote, Almond Tuile
the entire meal was to put simple, scrumptious. Very refined, all the tastes had many layers. individual components on each dish could stand on their own. The agnolotti and pickled grapes stand out in my mind today still, and those were just complimentary elements on the dish. and at $42 per person, prefix 3 course i think it is outstanding for such elegance. Langdon Hall was recently honoured to San Pellegrino's top 100 restaurants in the world, and it has been a 5 diamond establishment for many years already. Chef Jonathan Gushue
the setting is absolutely gorgeous, this country inn really is a boutique hotel, with genuine character and history throughout. before arriving, i was a little worried the hotel was a little too "high brow" for us, but i think because of its seclusion, and the fact that its run by a family, it was very welcoming and relaxing. We didn't stay a night at the hotel but took advantage of all the amenities apon their recommendation.
stay tuned for part two, when we show some pictures of the gardens, greenhouses, and our bike ride through the paths. we even saw wild rhubarb!
woo! long post.
