Find a crutch. A good one. Anna writes...

With a ton of great new recipes added to our binder, and renewed love for boiled beets, you could say that I am one happy camper! I love seasonal detoxing, cleansing, eating clean - whatever you want to call it. NYNR felt like spring cleaning for my soul!

I find that after completing a nutrition program, I need to quickly find some "crutches." Give me some quick and easy tips that make grocery shopping and my time in the kitchen almost brainless and fail-proof. I have a lot to do! Don't you? I am willing to put thought into dinner, but breakfast and lunch need to be easy.

Here are my favorite tips that help me to maintain my achievements post-programs:

1. Oats for breakfast! Since they're easy to make and there are about a million and a half delicious recipes for morning oats, I keep oats on my shelves and frozen organic fruit in my freezer. I prefer fresh fruit, BUT frozen is cheaper, lasts longer, and frankly its quicker, too. Running short on time? Google overnight oats!

2. Lightened Up Tahini-Lemon Dressing. Oh, mama! If you are looking for a way to eat more veggies on a daily basis, this dressing will be your BEST friend. I am not ashamed to admit that by nature, I am not a veggie lover. However, if you give me something healthy and delicious that I can pour on chopped vegetables or a big salad, I could eat 'em for every meal. And believe me, with this dressing, you may want to! Guilt free and amazing, I tell you!

*and PS, have you looked into nutritional yeast (ingredient in the dressing? Check. It. Out.)

3. As you now know, go nuts! Packing a snack doesn't get much easier than tossing nuts in a bag, right? Brazil nuts, cashews, walnuts, almonds...chew them well and get a good little dose of that magical trio: fat, fiber, protein!

4. Have a fiesta! As far as I can tell, eating avocado on a regular basis is the best thing since lip gloss. Don't believe me? Check it out.
I make a batch of guacamole at least 3 evenings a week. Onion, garlic, red or orange peppers, cilantro...the list goes on. I put lots of chopped veggies in my guacamole and use more veggies as a means for dipping. Snack on it, incorporate it dinner, or a new favorite - as discovered by my three year old, roll some smoked salmon around a scoop and enjoy. Yum to the yum!

I have loved reading everyone's questions and comments throughout NYNR and many times thought of how we could have unknowingly brushed shoulders while grocery shopping :) Here's to a wonderful rest of your year!!

Cheers to 2013,
Anna
