So as you know, Steph and Hil got married on October 3rd. This is a post of my favourite dishes that evening.
Pronounced "yue jeu" in Cantonese, this is basically a roasted crispy baby pork. Yes unfortunately it is supposed to be a baby pork. May, how do pronounce it in Mandarin? So hard to do it well, but its always a crowd pleaser as most would say the crispy skin is the best way to start a meal. I wouldnt' be suprised if this was one of may's favourite because she loves pork so much
Another classic dish, the Lobster stir fried with garlic, green onion and ginger. A dish of textures, i believe they quickly deep fry the lobster pieces and then throw it in the wok to stir fry with the green onion and ginger while making a sauce. Fresh out of the kitchen its got a slight crispy layer on the shells with juicy and bouncy meat on the inside. I love any seafood =]
I love going to Chinese wedding banquet dinners. Most are overwhelmed by the shear volume of food (many many courses).. but for some reason, and I guess not completely surprising.. I'm never ridiculously full, maybe because there is always time to rest in between each course. Either way, i love the variety and the tradition of dishes you can expect. Shark Fin Soup, Steamed Fish, Scallops w/ veggies, Abalone, Crab Claws, are some of my favourites items that i look forward to.
And even tho i probably won't have a tradditional chinese banquet at my own wedding one day, i'm pretty sure i'll have some of these dishes in some shape or form. I thinking 15+ course meal or some kinda food stations. Who's hungry?!
