Hank's Brunch

dutch pancake

We've heard good things about Hank's,  Jamie Kennedy used to head up the kitchen and they used to have the coffee guru Sam James that now among many other things, curates the coffee selection at the Beast (that's gonna be the next post!)  So we thought we'd try it out with none other than our favourite brunch peers.

The thing that really caught our eyes on the menu was the breakfast poutine which is built with sausage, poached eggs, cheddar cheese, tomato, fries and topped with hollandaise sauce; sounds too delicious to pass on, no? Gabe was surely locked down on that one. I went with the eggs pacific, a classic on brunch menus. The eggs were poached just right, fish is of high quality, and everything is nicely put together, except there's no wow factor. I was happy with what I got. The breakfast poutine has room for improvement. The hollandaise was on the heavier side, and we thought perhaps cheese curds would probably do better in the dish than grated cheddar cheese.

The dish that really impressed us was the dutch oven pancake. What came to the table was a single thick pancake (much like this one). I have to say this is one of the best pancakes I've had in a long time. The pancake looks firm, but the inside is super fluffy; the combination of textures is just so perfect. It's worth a trip to Hank's just for this mouthwatering pancake.
